Recently,
in historic Hudson, New Hampshire, two very different buildings
needed new roofs. One is the second oldest house in town, and the
other is a modern house complete with skylights and solarium. It’s
no surprise that both homeowners called Viking. We’re proven
experts in handling both historic and modern structures.
Hudson sprang up along the Merrimack River in the early 18th century.
In the 200 years since its founding, the materials, techniques,
and styles for roofing have changed dramatically. But the passage
of 200 years also changes an individual roof: beams and basements
settle, walls shift, and nothing remains square.
The roof Viking placed on the second oldest building in Hudson achieved
the home-owners main goal of durable protection. At Viking, however,
we’re never satisfied with simple replacement. We also made
sure the roof looked straight despite the settling caused by time,
and we restored the chimney flashing to match the roof material.
The new Viking roof will shield the home from weather for another
50 years, and it renews the entire dwelling.
Elsewhere in Hudson, the owner of a beautiful modern home asked
Viking to install a new roof. Modern homes often have complex roofs.
As Viking owner Jeff Taylor explains, “This home included
skylights and a dormer with a curved roof (eyebrow) on a slope.
The complexity of the roof had also created a problem. Throughout
the winter, ice gathered and built up around the skylights.”
Viking installed a cooper roof that exactly suited the building’s
distinctive architecture. Then Viking refitted all the skylights
with fully soldered, custom metal base flashings. Now ice melts
off the skylights and off the roof. Once again, Viking delivered
more than a roof: we enhanced the home’s natural beauty and
prevented expensive repairs in the future.
Whether your house is part of New England’s heritage or a
recent addition to its landscape, Viking delivers the roof and tender
loving care that will keep it safe for decades to come.
