The
Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua, NH, offers eight stories of luxury
beneath a 30,000- square-foot roof. When the time came to replace
that roof, Gene Brodeur, Chief Maintenance Engineer at the Crowne
Plaza, knew the task wouldn’t be easy. That’s why he
called in Viking. “The quality of Viking’s work is excellent,”
he says. “Compared to other people, they go above and beyond.
They don’t do a quick patch. They stand behind their product.”
Viking’s team faced three main difficulties. First, the roofing
system’s extensive ductwork was located just two feet above
the roof, blocking access. Second, hotel management wanted the job
completed with the least possible disturbance to guests. That meant
very little noise and no debris. Finally, a weather pattern of extreme
heat and high winds introduced the issue of working safely eight
stories above the ground.
Viking’s roofing team handled the ductwork issue by installing
much of the new roof while lying flat on the roof’s surface.
Like the old roof, the new roof is EPDM (ethylene propylene diene
monomer) rubber ballast that will last for years. Hotel management
was very pleased with Viking’s systematic approach to debris
removal and noise containment. Debris was removed frequently and
work was scheduled so the nosiest parts of the job occurred when
the hotel’s guest load was at a minimum. As a result, management
received no complaints from the Crowne Plaza’s guests. Finally,
Viking adhered to strict safety rules to ensure that the project
was completed without incident despite the heat and winds.
Viking completed the job on time and on budget, without problems.
As Brodeur says, “It was a difficult job at best, and Viking
was able to handle it. We would use them again—in fact, we
will be using them again. Viking is a quality organization.”
